Fashion Corner.....Sleeves and Shoulder Fashions

Shoulder and Sleeve fashions of all kinds have been hitting the runway over the last year. We have seen the Flapper Sleeves that work particularly well on jackets and blazers a lot lately. In 2008, the one-shoulder became very popular among designers on the runway and for the red carpet. America's first lady, aka fashion icon, Michelle Obama (picture above) started this outburst of the one shoulder dress, after she wore a one shoulder gown to the the President of the United States Inauguration Ball in 2009. By 2009, the one-shoulder and one-sleeved dresses were considered style for winter party dresses and are still popular for this summer. The Blouson Sleeve, which is a full length voluminous sleeve, also hit the runway last year. The Power Shoulder(seen below) is one that is now popping up as one of 2010's new trends....This style originates from the 1800's when blouses, dresses and
gowns were made with exaggerated shoulders. This style proves to be one that can come across a bit costume-like so, it has to be worn carefully and fashionably to be pulled-off successfully.
